Obituary of Donald K. Roberts

Donald K. Roberts of Endicott Donald K. Roberts, surrounded by his loving family, entered peacefully into the arms of the Lord following a courageous battle with cancer Wednesday morning, January 9, 2008. He was born April 15, 1935. His father, W.L. Roberts predeceased him. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra Roberts; devoted daughters, Debra Roberts, (Mike Milos), Cheryl and husband, Martin Greco; and three grandchildren who were the light of his life, Brian, Collin and Devin Greco; his mother, Hazel Roberts; brother, Richard and wife, Marcy Roberts; sister, Jean and husband, Lou Struble; and several nieces and nephews. Don graduated high school in 1953. He went on and attended Alfred University and graduated in 1956. On November 24, 1956, he married Sandra and they began their journey through life together. They moved to Endicott, N.Y., in 1968 where he raised his family and worked for IBM Corp. retiring after 35 years of service. He also served in his country while stationed in For Dix, N.J. His love of airplanes was a gift he gave to his grandson, Brian. They joined the Lockwood Flyers Remote Control Airplane Club. Together they built their own flying field in Newark Valley, N.Y., where they spent many wonderful days together. His lifelong dream was to travel with his wife and grandchildren vacationing in his R.V. He fulfilled that dream and spent many memorable times vacationing in Florida. Our loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all whose lives he has touched. "Fill not your heart with pain and sorrow but remember me in every tomorrow...Remember The Joy, The Laughter, The Smiles, I've only gone to rest a little while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt, and given me relief. So dry your eyes and remember me. Not as I am, but as I used to be. Because I will remember you all. And look on with a smile. Understand in you hearts I've only gone to rest a little while."The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Allerton, his Oncologist, and the staff at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa., for their compassion and dedication to their profession. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main Street, Endicott, with the Rev. Anne Bey Canfield officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley. Family will receive their friends on Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
