Obituary of Jane M. Corey

Jane M. Corey Vestal: Jane M. Corey, aged 92, of Vestal, passed away peacefully to her eternal heavenly home, Monday, December 8, 2014. She was predeceased by her first husband of 25 years, Lawrence A. Stratton, a renowned watercolor artist in the area. Jane is survived by her husband of 28 years, Herbert Corey, two stepdaughters: Sharon Corey of Vestal and Renee (Jeff) Johnson of Connecticut and a stepson, Daniel (Nancy) Corey of Vermont, her daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Mrva of Vestal, and son, Paul (Andrea) Stratton of Arkansas, three grandchildren: Bethany (Mark) Bull of Endwell, Nathan (Heather) Mrva of Virgina Beach, Jennifer Mrva of Virginia, and 4 step grandchildren: Jereme Kennington, Jessica Bennet, both of Arkansas, Joshua and Jacob Kennington, both of Texas, and two great grandchildren: Samuel and Michael Bull of Endwell. Jane is also survived by a brother, Norman (Janet) Pickering of Endicott, a sister, Ruth (Richard) Wakeman of Florida, and a brother Carlin (Sandy) Pickering of Florida and numerous other relatives. Jane was Valedictorian of the first graduating class at Vestal Senior High School, 1940. She graduated in 1944 from the Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and continued education at Columbia University of New York City, Syracuse University and Harper College, resulting in a B.S in public health nursing education. Jane was one of the first school nurses in Broome County and was in charge of ten schools. She was also school nurse for Windsor and Johnson City School districts. Jane was very active as a musical director and Sunday school teacher for the Endwell Church of Christ in Christian Union and the Vestal Free Methodist Church. We will miss Jane's beautiful smile and her loving affirmation of everyone she met. Calling hours will be Saturday, December 13, 11 am to 1 pm with a funeral service following at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, Main St. in Vestal. "I will lift up my eyes to the hills.
