Obituary of Lois F. Tompkins

Lois F. Tompkins, of Vestal, passed peacefully after a short illness on Monday, May 18, 2015, her 92nd birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, James T. Tompkins, brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Louise Francis, and her sister Marion Francis. She is survived by her children; Sue and John Rogers, Oneida, NY, Sally and Dean Weber, Ann Arbor, MI, and Scott and Rhonda Tompkins, Darnestown, MD, grandchildren; Benjamin (Corey) Turnpenny, Caitlin (Larry) Mayotte, Meghan Turnpenny, and Emily Weber, one great granddaughter, Evelyn Mayotte, two "adopted granddaughters"; Victoria and Courtney Yates, one niece, Gail (Ron) Perrin, three nephews; Gary (Margie) Francis, Bill (Barbara) Francis, and Mark (Margaret) Francis, and several cousins. Lois was born in Avoca, PA to William and Bessie (Ehrhardt) Francis. After graduating from Avoca High School in 1940, she was hired as the first female secretary in the personnel department at IBM in Endicott, NY, where she worked until her marriage in 1951. She was a member of the Vestal United Methodist Church, several bridge clubs and enjoyed traveling with Jim. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends for cookie baking, strawberry jam, and playing Skip-Bo. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Vestal Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Vestal United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 328 Main St. Vestal, NY 13850 or to Good Shepherd Fairview Home, 80 Fairview Ave., Binghamton, NY 13904 in memory of Lois F. Tompkins.
