Obituary of James D. Davis

James D. Davis, 80 of Union Center passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn (Jo); parents, Kenneth and Elma; his two sisters, Coralena and Peggy. He is survived by his son, Daniel Davis; daughter, Kristina Davis; and grandson, Justin Lavelle, with whom he shared a close and special bond. Jim was born in Salem, West Virginia, and graduated from Union Endicott High School in 1955. He served in the United States Army from 1958·1960, both domestically and overseas. He and Jo (Marilyn) were married in 1960 and spent 47 happy years together. Jim was retired from the Maine Endwell School District, where he worked as the head mechanic for 30 years. Jim believed strongly in the ideals of service, community, and loyalty, as well as historical preservation and promoting and supporting the youth of our community. He spent his lifetime exemplifying those ideals by his volunteer activities that are too numerous to list here. Those closest to his heart included his lifetime membership in the American Legion Post 1700 where he held many positions over the years including being a past Commander, and the Honor Guard, as well as coordinating the college scholarship program. He was also the President of the Nanticoke Valley Cemetery Association, and a long-time volunteer and leader In the Spirit of '76 Fife and Drum Corps. He was admired and respected by everyone whose life he touched, and will be deeply missed by his community and all that knew him. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11:30 AM from the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 300 East Main St., Endicott. The Rev. David Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Nanticoke Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 9:30 AM until service time at 11:30.
