Obituary of Robert Gideon Squier

Squier, Robert Gideon (Bob)Robert Gideon (Bob) Squier of Apalachin, passed away on May 4, 2016 at Lourdes Hospital with his family at his side. He was born on March 27, 1935 in Clarks Summit, PA., the eldest child of Gideon and Thelma (White) Squier. Bob graduated from Clarks Summit Abington Heights High School in 1954, where he earned his varsity letters in football and basketball, and had the lead role in the senior play. After graduation, Bob went to work for IBM-Endicott and later worked in various management positions at Federal Electronics, SCI-Owego, and the Matco Group. After his "official" retirement, Bob began a second career as a monitor at Broome-Tioga BOCES and continued to work there with Michael, whom he was very proud of. Bob was a lifetime member of the Apalachin Volunteer Fire Department. Over his 55+ years of active service, Bob held many positions, including emergency squad, fire police captain, assistant chief, and commissioner. He also was a member of the Apalachin Twisters Competition Team and a proud long time organizer of the Apalachin Firemen's Field Days. He was a Deacon at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Apalachin. On July 14, 1958, Bob married the love of his life, Diane Pritchard, who predeceased him in 2011. Bob is survived by five children: Pamela (George) Luhrs, Apalachin, NY; Robert G. Squier II, Burnt Hills, NY; Deborah (Michael) McFadden, Brazil, IN; Robin (Thomas) Marzo, Owego, NY; Randall (Maureen) Squier, Coxsackie, NY. He is also survived by grandchildren: Christopher (Allison) Luhrs, Astoria, OR; Matthew (Teri) Luhrs, Endwell, NY; Megan Marzo, Brooklyn, NY; Andrew (Amber) Marzo, Denver, CO; Kristin Marzo, Owego, NY; Billy Ray Rose, Washington; Sarah Rose, Terre Haute, IN; James, Margaret, and Maeve Squier, Coxsackie, NY; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Andrew Jubinski, Factoryville, PA. He is survived by brother, Donald (Carolyn) Squier, Lake of Meadows, PA; sister, Patricia (Paul) Motsko, Endwell, NY and many nephews and nieces. Bob was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them; especially at the Jersey Shore. He will be dearly missed. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 6519 Route 434, Apalachin. Pastor Thomas Briggs will officiate. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Apalachin. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to the Apalachin Fire Department, Pennsylvania Ave., Apalachin, NY 13732. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff stationed at Lourdes Seton 3, for their compassionate care of our dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. Dad you made us proud. 1-4-3!! -
