Obituary of Ruth M. VanDyke

Ruth M. (Countryman) Van Dyke age 88 of Vestal, NY, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 brought on by Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was the daughter of the late Perle and Ida (Salmon) Countryman of Barneveld, NY. She was born in Prospect, NY on May 12, 1928. On April 11, 1953 she married the love of her life, William (Bill) J. Van Dyke. She was predeceased by her sister Mildred (James) Plumley, her brother Richard Countryman and daughter in law Mary Ellen (Steve) Van Dyke. Ruth is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Bill, of 63 years, two sons and daughter in law, Thomas and Sue (Stevens), Vestal, NY, and Steven, Binghamton, NY; one daughter and son in law, Donna and Victor Ticonchuk, Apalachin, NY; Six loving grandchildren, Robert (Stephanie) and Patrick (Alana Gale) Ticonchuk, Alison and Nealy Van Dyke and one great grandson William Ticonchuk. Ruth is also survived by her sister in law, Marilyn (Richard) Countryman, Aunt Betty and Edwin Blake, former daughter in law Candy Van Dyke, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Ruth was a faithful member of the Vestal Center United Methodist Church, holding many offices and sang in the choir. Many enjoyable years were spent together after Bill retired from IBM as they traveled in their trailer throughout the United States and Canada. Ruth was an avid Yankee fan for most of her life and also enjoyed playing the piano, music and crafts but her most joy came from being a wife, mother, and the best grandmother ever. Family and friends were her greatest joy in life. Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 3:00PM at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home LLC., 765 Main Street, Vestal.The Rev. Mark Kimpland will officiate Interment will be at Vestal Park Cemetery, Vestal. The family will receive friends on Sunday October 9 from 1:00PM until the time of service.
