Obituary of Cheryl E. Labban

In sure and certain hope of resurrection, Cheryl Elaine Labban, (June 7, 1947) passed away on August 28, 2017 in New York City surrounded by family, love and music. Cheryl was born in Johnson City, New York, the adored, only child of Anthony and Elaine (Burgess) Johnson. She graduated from Maine-Endwell High School in 1965. After two years at Alfred State, she followed her passion and studied music at Potsdam University in 1967 and then began a lifetime of traveling the world. After college she returned to Binghamton to work at Binghamton University where she crossed paths with a handsome economics student whom she met while typing his dissertation. Cheryl and Dr. Muntasir Labban were married on May 16, 1975. Later in 1975 Monty, as she nicknamed him, and Cheryl moved to New York City. While in New York, Cheryl worked for Heyward-Robertson as an Administrator. In 1979, Cheryl and Monty welcomed their daughter, Danya Elaine Labban. In 1982 Monty's job with the International Fund for Agricultural Development took them to Rome, Italy where they lived until 2001. While in Italy, Cheryl worked teaching English to international executives at Proctor and Gamble and occasionally took on special consulting projects. Cheryl enjoyed a life full of family, dear friends and travel. Upon Monty's retirement in 2001, Cheryl and Monty returned to Endwell. They reunited with old friends and family, and made countless new friends through the Endwell United Methodist Church, Harmony Club of Binghamton, the Antique Society, Rotary Club and as volunteers for many organizations. Cheryl is preceded in death by her father, Anthony Johnson and grandparents Harry and Belle Johnson and Lowell and Ruth Burgess. She is survived by her mother, Elaine Johnson of Vestal, NY; her husband, Muntasir Labban of Endwell, NY; daughter, Danya Labban, daughter-in-law Tina Chandna and her family, grandchildren Ella and Greyson, all of New York, NY; sister-in-law, Houda Labban of Beirut, Lebanon, aunt and uncle, Shirley and Lacey Jones of Gouveneur, NY; aunt, Ila Jean Popple of Gainesville, FL and countless family and friends that span the globe. Funeral services will be Friday, September 1, 2017 at Endwell United Methodist Church (3301 Watson Blvd, Endwell, NY 13760) with visiting hours from 10 am to 12 pm, followed by church service at noon. Burial will take place at East Maine Cemetery. Donations may be made in Cheryl's memory to the Harmony Club of Binghamton in support of their high school music awards program establishing an award in Cheryl's name.
