Obituary of Helen Sharak

Binghamton - Helen Sharak passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, after a short illness at her daughter's home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 3, 1930 in Rahway, NJ and later raised in Brooklyn, NY. She moved to Akron, OH where she attended high school. Upon graduating, she relocated once more to Rome, GA and eventually settled in her forever home of Binghamton, NY, where she met her future husband, Sam. Helen was everything you could wish for in a mother, she was a teacher, an advisor, and best friend. She was always there to listen any time of the day. Helen instilled a strong work ethic, the importance of showing kindness and respect and was selfless; forever putting her families' wants and needs before her own. She was an exceptional decorator and kept a beautiful, welcoming home, providing tasty home cooked meals for all of us to enjoy. She had a sense of style and loved attending plays, a good opera, or concert. Her strength was unprecedented; she overcame life-threatening illnesses with a positive outlook and a sense of humor. Mom, I will miss our 35 years of Friday outings and road trips. Our hearts are broken and I will cherish those memories forever. Helen is predeceased by her beloved mother, Sophie Seman and her husband of 63 years, Sam Sharak. She is survived by her devoted children, Sandra (Ed) Abdallah of Binghamton, NY and Michael Sharak of Jamesville, NY; her loving grandchildren, Emily Abdallah, Michaela (James) Eccleston, and Meghan (Sam) Ando; great grandchildren, Jase and McKenleigh Eccleston and Luca and Gianna Ando; her dear Aunt, Helen Chopey of Rahway, NJ; cousins, Helen (Art) Shaffer of Scotch Plains, NJ, and Steve (Mary Ann) Chopey of New York, NY; and several nieces and nephews. She was member of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, the Cadence Dance Club and volunteered for years at the American Red Cross. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 15 at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 54 Baxter St., Binghamton, NY. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 14, from 5-7 p.m. at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 300 E. Main St., Endicott.
