Obituary of Gary E. Hollister

Gary Edward Hollister, 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, January 20th. He was pre-deceased by his mother Anna and Donald Hollister, and his brother Donald Hollister. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years Kay Hollister; his four children, Brian (Anne) of Frederick, Maryland; Mark (Sandra) of Frederick, Maryland; Lynn (Nicole) of Caroga Lake, New York; Valerie O'Neill (Jared) of Endicott, New York. 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Brianne, Alexander, Abigail, Evelyn and Gwendolyn. He is also survived by Brother in-law John Dieffenbach, niece Vicki Hollister and nephew Donald Hollister. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Dr Gregory Stonier, Dr Praveen Bondalapti , Dr Akhil Bindra (Cleveland Clinic) and gratitude to Guthrie Hospice for their compassionate nurses and our dedicated caregivers, Hanna, Jessica, Shannon, and Betsy. Gary owned and operated Gary's Plumbing & Heating for over 25 years and after retiring became a NYS code inspector. Gary was also a 32nd degree Freemason, and member of the Kalurah Shriners. One of his greatest passions was being a member of the Binghamton Breakfast Tips Club for over 45 years serving as President, Past President, Treasurer and most recently an Honorary Member. In more recent years he joined the Triple Cities Street Rods. He enjoyed making new friends and sharing automotive knowledge about our classic cars and participating in their annual goal of organizing a Car Show to raise funds for local community organizations. Gary was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Endicott. His church was his second family. He served as a past Sr. High Youth leader, coached the softball team for several years, trustee and currently as a deacon. Gary was an avid vintage toy collector and spent many hours cataloguing, researching, displaying and enjoying his collection. His most cherished role was lover, snuggler, father, provider, grandfather and uncle. He loved family above all. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31 at 12;00 at First Baptist Church, 1406 Monroe St., Endicott, NY. Interment service will follow at Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott, NY. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church 1406 Monroe St., Endicott, NY. on Friday, January 31 from 10:00 to 12:00 pm.
