Gary Titus

Obituary of Gary Lee Titus

Gary Lee Titus, 73, of Endicott, NY, went home to be with the Lord on January 24th, 2025. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Emory and Elsie Titus, brother in-law Bruce and sister in-law Janet. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen Titus of Endicott, NY, daughter Sarah Titus and fiancé Courtney Baxter of Newark Valley, NY, daughter Sharon Titus and fiancé Robb Schneidau of Endicott, NY, his four grandchildren, Jared, John, Ava and Lilith, siblings Carolyn & Ted Hurlbut of Simpsonville, SC, Dave and Sandy Titus of Endicott, NY, Greg Titus of Woonsocket, RI, Peggie and Steve Webb of Murrieta, CA, Emory and Renee Titus of Endicott, NY, Jim Titus of Endicott, NY, Rich and Carolyn Titus of Greene, NY as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gary was born in Johnson City, NY on June 16, 1951. He was a graduate of Union Endicott High School, class of 1969. He was a manager at EJ’s for many years and later worked for Lander’s in the shipping department.

Gary spent each of his 26,886 days on this Earth being a kind, caring, and loving man. There isn’t a person who can say they didn’t like him, unless they just didn’t like him because he was too likeable. He would do absolutely anything for his family, whether it was his siblings growing up, parents later in life, his wife, kids or grandkids. If it was in his ability to help, he would. Even if it was just a hug or a listening ear. From stories I’ve heard, a sibling or two might even attribute their being here today to his help (they might also say he helped them get in their precarious position in the first place, but we won’t worry about that now).

Growing up the second oldest of eight children, there was no shortage of friends to play with. He always enjoyed the outdoors, and you could frequently find him outside playing cowboys and Indians and venturing down to the river and train tracks behind their house (fully against his mother’s wishes). I believe there is even a time or two that he may or may not have tried to hop on the train. There were certainly many various objects that were thrown on the tracks just to “see what would happen.”

Later in life, Gary enjoyed writing, was an excellent horseshoe player and loved music. He literally got kicked out of a Christian college so he could go to a Door’s concert against school policy. Gary had a great voice, loved doing karaoke and jamming out in the car to classic rock (well, now it’s classic). He could make up lyrics on a whim that would flow perfectly with the song. Sometimes drawing laughs and at other times drawing massive eye rolls, especially from his daughters on long car rides to Alexandria Bay in the summer.

He was an avid fan of the NY Giants, NY Knick’s and Syracuse basketball. It was very rare that he would ever miss any of the games. I’m pretty sure his favorite time to watch the Giants was with some of his siblings who preferred the Bills. The only time the family was split was during those games…

He enjoyed working on cars, until “They put too much computer crap in them!” He would eventually get over his despise for computers and could be found playing online card games with people from all over the world for hours. The ability to use computers would become especially useful in his final years, so he could order his Doordash from the nursing home. Gary loved his food and nursing home meals were definitely not up to his standards. You don’t tug on Superman’s cape, and you certainly don’t mess with Gary’s food.

He will be dearly missed but has blessed us all with many amazing memories that we will always cherish.
