Obituary of Anthony N Arnone
Anthony N. Arnone, 83, of Vestal, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Mercy House of the Southern Tier, after a brief illness.
Anthony is predeceased by his parents Anthony F. and Jeannette (DeAngelo) Arnone, brother Charles Arnone and grandson Matthew Stastny.
Tony (Poppy) will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sylvia (Massini) Arnone; his children Anthony P. Arnone, Renée (Christopher) Stastny and Lisa Arnone (Robert Burdick); his grandchildren Victoria (Ryan) McGinn, Anthony (Alexa) Cooper, Michael Stastny, Mia Stastny and Brenna Burdick; and his great-grandsons Jack and Luke McGinn.
He is also survived by his siblings Dominick (Charlotte) Arnone, Theresa Longobardi and Marguerite (Gil) Walton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tony was born in Pittson, PA. After graduating from Pittston High School, he joined the United States Army and served in Fort Dix, Fort Benning and Fort McPherson before going to Korea for over two years. He returned home in January 1962 after the Berlin crisis and married his sweetheart. The couple lived in Old Forge, PA; North Hollywood & Panorama City, CA and Poughkeepsie & Endwell, NY during the early years of their marriage before settling in Vestal. Tony worked incredibly hard to provide the life he dreamed of for his family. In California, he was employed by the Rocketdyne Corp. He was a graduate of IMB Tech School, and he worked for IBM Poughkeepsie and Endicott, NY for over 30 years in management and for the New York State Insurance Fund for 13 years before retiring in 2007.
Tony spent his life dedicated to Jesus and his family. He took great pride in being a gardener; and he enjoyed traveling to many places, exercising, golfing, fishing, music and rewatching his favorite black & white movies. He was an avid sports fan, especially for his Yankees and Bills. For the last 15 years, Tony & Sylvia cherished their winters in Palmetto, FL, creating beautiful memories with family and friends.
Our family wishes to thank the wonderful and caring staff and volunteers at Mercy House. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Ave., Endicott, NY 13760 or Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main St., Vestal, NY 13850.
