Obituary of Muriel L Holst
Muriel L. Holst, 97, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. She was predeceased by her parents, John D. Rugge and Alma (Grape) Rugge and by her loving husband of 58 years, Harold G. "Hal" Holst. She is survived by two sons, Robert Holst, and his wife Maryellen, Hatboro, Pa; John Holst and his wife Anita, Johnson City; two daughters, Barbara and her husband, Adrian Skarvinko, Endwell; Janet and her husband, William Mitchell, Vestal; nine grandchildren and their spouses and seven great-grandchildren.
Muriel was born in Brooklyn, New York and was an executive secretary for F.W. Woolworth Company. After marriage she and Hal relocated to Syracuse NY, then to Vestal NY where she raised her children. Muriel loved to sing and was a soloist and member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Sarah Jane Johnson Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She also sang with the Binghamton Symphony and Choral Society as well as the Vestal Community Chorus. Muriel was past president of the Vestal Women's Lions Club. After raising her children, she worked as a secretary for the Binghamton Court Clerk's office until her retirement.
Muriel was a kind and gentle woman who loved her family very much. She loved to travel and enjoyed gardening very much. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the Palliative Care Unit at UHS Binghamton General Hospital for their kindness and compassion.
As per Muriel's wishes, there will be no calling hours, and a private service will be provided for the family. Interment will follow at Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Muriel's name to Shriners Hospital for Children,2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa Florida,33607-1460, or to the American Cancer Society.
