Obituary of Peter S Bolan

Peter S. Bolan Obituary (3-24-2025) Peter Samuel Bolan, 97, of Vestal, surrounded by his loved ones, passed peacefully through Heaven's Gates to meet his loving wife Margaret on March 24, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret, his parents, Theodore and Sarah (Macaluso) Bolan and his four siblings, Robert, Nicholas, Theodore, and Ann Bolan. Peter was born and grew up in Youngstown, OH. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and after his discharge attended the University of Pittsburg and received a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1950. Once Peter graduated from engineering school he accepted an engineering position at US Steel in Youngstown, eventually he changed jobs and accepted a position at IBM Endicott as a mechanical engineer in the printer division. He quickly was promoted from a staff engineer position into management. He received several awards for development of many of the system S/360 printer line of products. Peter retired from IBM in 1992. Peter had a love for music and specially enjoyed the music from the big band era of the 30's and 40's. After retiring he played his clarinet well into his 90's in many concerts performed by the Maine Community Band and the Vestal Community Band. The concerts were enjoyed by all who attended and were held at various local parks, malls and nursing homes. Peter could also play the violin and would play his accordion when his children "convinced" him too. Peter is survived by daughter Diane (Chris) Kozecke, Joseph (Laura Ann), Timothy (Deborah) and Peter; Nine grandchildren, Nicole (Matt) Bolan, Maria (Tyler) Bolan (Hastings), Sarah (Nick) Roos, Michael, Samantha, Danielle (Jonah) Bolan, Daryl, Adam (Kate), and Noah Kozecke; Six precious great grandchildren, Nolan, Vivian, Josephine, Ellie, Draco, Isadoro, Colton; His Aunt Dorothy (mother's sister), sister-in-law Barbara (Don) Myers, brother-in law David (Shirley) Metzger, several nieces and nephews; Annie (David) Mueller, Sarah Floor, Elizabeth Bolan, Robert (Marsha) Bolan, Theresa Rider, Thomas (Ruth) Bolan, Mike Bolan, Salvadore Bolan, Catherine (David) Myers, Maria (Daniel) Piliero. Peter was proud of his Sicilian heritage and told many stories about his grandparents who immigrated from Bagheria and Resuttano, Sicily. Peter enjoyed working on automobiles, camping, ice fishing and yearly fishing trips to Canada with his friends. He always enjoyed Sunday dinners with his children and grandchildren. His favorite TV shows included wheel of fortune, jeopardy and family feud. He always enjoyed reading the morning newspaper along with his favorite breakfast, a banana and raisin bran in his coffee. Peter was a member of the OLS Knights of Columbus and the Endicott Elks Lodge. Peter for many years assisted members of the local community to complete their taxes as a Tax-Aid volunteer for the AARP foundation. When his grandchildren would ask him how he was doing Peter's answer would be "fair to midland" or sometimes in Italian "mezza mezza" (it is what it is) or another of his favorite was "what's new" and answer "New York" or "New Mexico". When saying goodbye he jokingly would say "see you later alligator" and would chuckle when he heard the response "in a while crocodile". Family and friends may pay their respects Saturday, March 29 from 10-11 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal, NY, where the funeral mass will then be offered at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
