Obituary of Julia M. Mahar
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our sister, Julia Mahar, 48 years, of Binghamton, NY, on Friday April 4, 2025. Julia had many health issues and challenges since childhood. She faced them with determination, grace and her twisted sense of humor.
She graduated from Binghamton High School, attended NYU, earned her master's degree from Binghamton University, and obtained her certification in addictions counseling. She was a strong advocate and ally to the marginalized.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Peg Mahar, and her fiance Patrick Murphy. She is survived by her brothers and sisters; Tom (Beth) Mahar, Mary (David) Mineno, Margaret (John) Tobias, Leigh Mahar, Kate (Dinesh) Mahar, and Eileen Mallon.
She left many lasting memories with her 17 nieces and nephews, 25 great nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great nieces, several cousins, and her fur-baby Snickers, whom she adored.
A funeral mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Ave, Binghamton Thursday April 10, 2025 at noon. The family will receive friends at the church at 11 AM until time of service.
Having been a transplant recipient, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to the National Kidney Foundation (Kidney.org) or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central NY.
In honor of Julia, attend a protest, resist and be outraged.
