Obituary of Ira J. Scurry

Ira "Joe" Scurry passed away on April 23, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Born in Franklin, PA on February 29, 1944. Joe felt that his leap year baby status kept him forever young. Predeceased in death by his wife Carol, his parents and three siblings. He is survived by his son Kevin; companion Lela Carden; siblings Kathy, Dan, John, Edward (Dottie), Patrick (Colleen), Judi, and Urban; and many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to him as "Uncle Pro." Joe proudly served in the US Navy for four years and then went on to a 20-year career with IBM. After IBM left the area, Joe found a new career in Financial Advising. He loved visiting with his various clients around the area. Joe was married to his wife Carol for 54 loving years. After losing Carol, he was blessed with a second love with Lela. Being one of eleven children, he learned to stand out early. He loved music, dancing, and always had a joke or word of the day quiz ready for his friends and loved ones. Joe had a great love of golf; playing St. Andrews in Scotland was the highlight of his golf career. Joe was a long-time resident of Vestal, NY and a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows. A memorial mass will be offered at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal, NY on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 10am. Calling hours will begin at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project in remembrance of Joe.
