Obituary of William C. Prentice

William C. Prentice Bill started his journey back to his heavenly home and passed away peacefully at their home with Diane, his wife of 52 years, by his side in the wee hours of the morning, Sunday, May 4, 2025. He had endured the effects of cancer upon his body but 'never complained.' Bill is survived by his wife, Diane, and their sons Christopher and Nathan [Beverly] and two grand-children, Kaitlyn and Zachary Prentice. Also his two brothers: Edward [Penny] and Richard [Pamela] and many nieces and nephews, cousins and many colleagues and friends. Being somewhat of an adventurous-type guy, following graduation from Owego Apalachin High School in 1964, Bill joined the US Navy "to see the world!" He served on the USS Harry E. Yarnell DLG 17, a Guided Missile Frigate and rose to the rank of 3rd class petty officer ET. With his experiences on board ship and its cruises, Bill developed a special love for the gentleness and power of the sea. He got as far as the Mediterranean and its many ports of call; Valencia, Malta, Athens and Greece. While in the Med. Bill met up with his cousin Jeanne, who was studying in Spain at that time; together they 'painted the town red'! There are so many stories to tell of those days, we only ask that when you see a military / service personal you pay them respect. Even pick-up the their tab! Following an honorable discharge from the US Navy and taking advantage of the G.I. Bill, he settled down and perused an education in Electrical Engineering from Broome Tech [BCC]. By this time. his brother Ed was also attending BCC as well. They traveled to and from Broome in style: Bill's 1969 Sprite-Triumph! Bill started his professional career with New Youk State Electric & Gas working in the Binghamton office, western NY in the Lancaster office and later in the Hamburg office as a supervisor. Bill took advantage of an early retirement from NYSEG to peruse more fully Christian ministry. At a Walk to Emmaus week-end in 1994, Bill deepened his faith and trust in the LORD Jesus Christ. With a renewed commitment to serving Christ, Bill began a vocation in Christian ministry becoming a local pastor serving the Campville United Methodist Church. After completion of Local Pastor's school, he then was also appointed to the Gibson Corners UMC making his work week as he liked to say, "7/8th time." Bill was ordained an elder in the Global Methodist Church in 2023 and served both Gibson Corners and Campville Global Methodist Churches. He loved the LORD ! Memorial donations may be made to either Campville Global Methodist Church, Gibson Corners Global Methodist Church or Hospice [Vestal, NY] in memory of Bill.
