John Irving and his family were long time friends of ours. We shared the tragedies in their lives, and our friendship lasted through the years even after our move away from the Triple Cities to the Charlotte, NC area. John was a fine man with his own wry sense of humor. As a veteran, he served honorably, and as a teacher helped many a student. His passing is a sad thing for us, but we do feel relief that he is now beyond the suffering he endured during the last years of his life - and that he is now reunited with his wife, Sandy, and his dear daughter, Kelly. His younger daughter, Shari supported John through thick and thin, devoting over 5 years of her life to provide care as John suffered setback after setback. She made it possible to fulfill Jon's last wish, which was to pass in his own home.
