Isabell Catherine (Murphy) Hashem

Isabell (Murphy) Hashem, 92, a devoted nurse, beloved wife and mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and cherished friend, passed away at home surrounded by love and family on June 11, 2025. Isabell was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years Barry A. Hashem, her daughter Judith (Dan) Shea, Sisters Molly (Don) Pratt, Rose (Herb) Brown, and Robert (Dorothy) Murphy.


Isabell is survived by, and will be forever missed and lovingly remembered, by Jan Hashem-McGregor of Endicott, NY; Kay (Lee) Bohlman of Shortsville, NY; Betty (Shaun) Barrett of Pittsford, NY; John (Deborah) Hashem of Owings, MD; and Theresa (David) Gage of Geneva, NY. Grandma Belle is survived by grandchildren Dana, Christopher (Sarah), Kiki (Austin), Kailey, Ben, Bryna, Tess, Ian, and Leila; great-grandma Belle to Nora, Lincoln, and Blair. Aunt Chub had many nieces and nephews whom she adored.


Isabell (Murph, Chub), was born on July 30, 1932, in Endicott, New York. She graduated from Union-Endicott High School in the Class of 1950. Academically honored and full of tiger spirit, she served as the Cheerleading Captain and Italian Club President. In addition to being 1st runner up homecoming queen, mom played basketball and was a member of the bowling and track teams. She kept herself busy with Tri-hi, glee club, choir and thesaurus staff.


Isabell pursued her lifelong calling in the nursing profession, graduating from Harpur College and the Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1953, earning the Registered Nurse credential. A passionate and dedicated caregiver, she devoted her professional life to geriatric nursing, where she touched the lives of countless patients and their families with grace, empathy, and professionalism. Her heart was never far from those in need, and her legacy in the field is one of quiet strength and compassionate service.


Throughout her life, Isabell's motto came from a nursing school poem:

"Good friend and pal to one and all and always will be."


Faith was a cornerstone of Isabell's life. A lifelong member of St. Ambrose Church, she was active in many ministries over the years, including over 20 years in the choir, serving as an altar server and lector, and helping prepare bereavement lunches—each an expression of her deep generosity and community spirit.


The family will receive family and friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main Street, Endicott, Friday June 27, 2025, from 4pm -7pm. Her funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Ave., Endicott, NY, Saturday June 28th, 2025, at 9:30am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery 501 Fairview St, Johnson City, NY 13790-1481.
