Gerald (Jerry) Jones, 83, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. He was born in 1942 in Utica, NY to Walter C and Wanda Slosek Jones. He was predeceased by his parents and was an only child. His closest living relatives are on his mother's side of the family and consist of first cousins Carolyn (David) Slosek Gaylord, Vicki Slosek, Edward Slosek, Marjorie (Kevin) Slosek Dziwulski and Larry Slosek. The family lived in Unadilla Forks, NY and this is where Jerry spent his childhood. He attended West Winfield Central School where he participated in baseball and bowling and was a member of the Honor Society and class president. After high school he attended Hartwick College and after graduation was asked to stay on for one year as a laboratory instructor. He obtained a Ph.D in organic chemistry from Syracuse University in 1970 and was fortunate to be awarded a National Science Foundation scholarship for 3 years. After Syracuse he accepted a post doctoral position at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He then joined the GAF Corporation in Binghamton working in the color film industry and later in Allentown, PA as a chemist in the sheet vinyl sector. It was in Binghamton that he met his wife to be, Terry Robb. They were married in 1977 and she passed in 2023. They had no children. Finally he worked at IBM in Endicott, NY in the circuit board division mostly involved with photoresists and UV light activation. He earned a corporate award for implementing a process to rid the site of organic solvents used to process photoresists. He also authored or co-authored over 20 patents. He retired in 2002 and enjoyed playing golf with his close friend Gary Stange and fly fishing local streams. Throughout his life he was an avid small game hunter and enjoyed hunting with many dogs. His favorite was his yellow lab retriever (Cinnamon) for duck hunting. After retirement he established a web site called "Unadilla Forks Remembered" and wrote a book with Larraine McNulty about Unadilla Forks. Jerry will be laid to rest in Unadilla Forks Cemetery family plot.
