Rita M Nossal Obituary

Rita Marie (Farrell) Nossal, 84, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Mercy House after brave and graceful battle with Glioblastoma. She is survived by her loving children: son, Jeff and Lisa of Cape Cod, and daughter-in-law, Valerie and Jim Roosa of Binghamton, many special nieces, nephews, special companion, Jim Kumiega, and a myriad of dear friends and chosen family she had collected over life.

Rita was predeceased by Len, her devoted husband of 53 years and dear son, Joe, sister-in-law, Elaine Krivyanik, parents, Thomas and Marie Sick Farrell and as the baby of the Farrell Clan, she was also preceded by all of her beloved siblings: brothers Paul (Margaret) Farrell, James (Frances) Farrell, and sisters Mary (John) Novak, Frances (Peter) DeCarlo, Therese (Larry) Ware, Jean (James) Donlin, Catherine (Fred) Horn, Genevieve "Gen" (Dale) Woith and Sarah "Sally" (George) Stohlman.

Born in Sayre, Pa., Rita graduated from Sayre High School in 1959 and went on to work as a secretary at IBM, where she met her husband, Len. After retiring from IBM, she went on working within her community by generously volunteering her time at United Way, Relay for Life, Meals on Wheels and Mercy House. She was also an active member in her church communities, Saint Margaret Mary Church in Apalachin, NY and in more recent years, Church of the Holy Family in Endwell, NY.

Rita, who was a little ball of energy and ray of sunshine, enjoyed laughter, parties, playing cards, travel and just spending time with the ones she loved. She spent many of her winters in Florida, and enjoyed family and friend vacations in Myrtle Beach, traveling to the Cape to visit her son and daughter-in-law, taking cruises with friends and family, traveling to various locations to partake in the annual "Fisher-Fest" and getting together with her very large and loving family for reunions that were so large, everyone wore color-coded T-shirts to designate which branch of the family tree they came from and a large, panoramic photo could barely fit everyone in!

Always with a positive outlook, she was sweet, generous and loving, with a smile that could light up a room. Rita also had a need and a knack for cleanliness and organization. Known as "Clara Clean" by some, she could tackle any laundry or cleaning project with ease and in retirement, even listed her title as a "domestic engineer" on LinkedIn. Rita also loved ice cream and friends, and ice cream (or coffee) with friends. She was blessed by and surrounded herself with many fabulous and caring friends and was always grateful for their friendship. For all, R-I-T-A was another word for L-O-V-E! She left her mark on many hearts and will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.

The family is grateful for the wonderful care Rita received by her special nurses and caregivers, both at home and Mercy House. Indeed, there are angels on earth.
