A generous soul, Walter was always ready to lend a helping hand, dedicating his time and support to numerous charities, local sports teams, and good causes throughout the community.
A passionate motorsports enthusiast, Walter spent many years deeply involved with the local racing scene, including at Shangri-La Speedway and Grandsport Speedway in Owego during the 1980s and 1990s. Even after retirement, his love for classic cars and community service continued. He was a regular at local car shows and cruise-ins, often seen behind the wheel of his cherished Superformance 1966 Shelby Cobra roadster—sometimes dressed as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny—delivering candy and joy to area nursing homes.
Walter also devoted many years as a dedicated volunteer with Meals on Wheels – Western Broome, embodying his lifelong commitment to serving others.
In accordance with Walter's wishes, a private burial will take place at a later date. A celebratory cruise-in event to honor his life and legacy will be held on September 28, 2025 at Hickories Park in Owego.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Walter's memory to Meals on Wheels – Western Broome.
Walter's laughter, generosity, and larger-than-life spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
