Jean M. Hemmer Obituary

Jean M. (Lussen) Hemmer passed away on September 4th, 2025 with her beloved daughter, Susan near by. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 ½ years, Bruce and her daughter, Beth. She is survived by her other daughter, Cindy and 4 grandchildren.



Jean was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and attended James Madison High School and Centenary College in Hackettstown, N.J. Upon graduation she was employed by Dillon, Read and Co. (Wall Street). Dillon was the U.S. Treasurer of the United States at the time.



Jean and Bruce were married and moved to Endicott, N.Y. in 1955. Bruce was employed by I.B.M. and Jean work at Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. obtaining an insurance license, passing a 6 hour test.



Jean was a stay-at-home mother, was a girl scout leader for 3 years, a PTA treasurer for 3 years, worked for the Election board for Broome County and a Docent at the Roberson Museum for 10 years, being chairman her final year.



She like her husband Bruce gave service to their church and community; they both worked in the soup kitchen at 1st Pres in Endicott; help at BC Habitat for Humanity.



Jean was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, then First Presbyterian Church for 46 years, a member with her husband of the Binghamton Boating Club for 40 years, a member of the Embroiders Guild for 18 years and a neighborhood bible group for 36 years.



She loved and played tennis for over 50 years, played bridge and was an avid reader and loved history and mystery.



A memorial service celebrating Jean's life with be held September 27th, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Union Presbyterian Church, Endicott, NY. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to the Campville Fire Department where my father was a volunteer for several years.
