Janet Rafferty, 76, of Apalachin, New York, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

From a young age, Janet had a calling to care for others, and she fulfilled that purpose through a long and compassionate nursing career. She worked as a cardiac certified RN at both Wilson and Lourdes Hospitals before continuing her service in home care until her retirement. Known for her kindness, empathy, and gentle spirit, Janet made every patient feel seen, heard, and cared for—leaving a lasting impression on those whose lives she touched.

After retiring, Janet devoted herself to caring for her parents, a reflection of her lifelong dedication to family and service. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. Janet cherished family gatherings, especially their summer vacations in the 1000 Islands, where many of her happiest memories were made.

Janet was a proud member of the VHS 66ers, enjoying countless laughs and shared memories with her classmates and lifelong friends. Her friends' visits to the nursing home continued to brighten her days and meant the world to her. She also found great peace and happiness in tending to her flower beds, nurturing her garden with the same care she gave to those around her. Her beautiful yard was a reflection of her love for nature and her eye for beauty.

Janet is survived by her children, Brian (Heather) Rafferty and Kristen Rafferty; her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Westbrook, Angelena Rafferty, and Isabella Rafferty; and her sister, Debra Hares. She also leaves behind many dear friends who will miss her kindness, laughter, and strength. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 8th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home in Endicott. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9th, at 10:00 a.m., also at Coleman & Daniels.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Janet's memory to the Alzheimer's Association CNY Chapter (5015 Campuswood Drive, Suite 102, East Syracuse NY 13057) or The Homesteads in Apalachin (6 Main St Apalachin NY 13732), where Janet resided in assisted living.

Janet's life was a testament to compassion, dedication, and love—and her gentle spirit will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
