Jay (John) Vassil Obituary

Jay (John) Vassil, 50, of Endicott, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 6, 2025, while doing one of his favorite activities, hunting with his son.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Beverly Vassil, and father-in-law, Garry Clark.

He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Beth Vassil, and their children, Matthew and Leah; siblings Kimberly (Golan) Shem-Tov and Tammy (Harry) Park; mother-in-law, Linda Boice; sister-in-law, Tammy (Don) Merritt; nieces, Emma Shem-Tov, Danielle Mirabito, Nicole Patak, Kaitlyn Patak, Kadence Merritt, and Bristol Merritt; best friend, Paul Hauptfleisch, and cousins, Teddy Decker and Steve Moxen, all who were like brothers to him; many fishing and baseball friends who were like family; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jay loved all things fishing, making fishing rods, jigs, and plastics, hunting, and his cats. He was a true foodie who enjoyed eating but, even more, he enjoyed cooking and feeding others. He was an excellent mixologist too. Jay was always very involved with his kids; supporting all of Matthew and Leah's sports and hobbies. He coached baseball for many years, from T-ball to All-stars, and was a member of the board of Endicott Little League. He was a long-time member of the Dell Oak Rod & Gun Club, where he spent a lot of time with his father and many family members. He always loved the weather when it was chilly or even below freezing; that Vassil "sweat gene" is awful!

A Celebration of His Life will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Glendale Park, Endicott, NY at 2 p.m. There will be no calling hours or services per Jay's wishes. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the family and are being kindly collected by Cory Micholychak (treasurer of the UE Little League) at PO Box 5749 Endicott, NY 13760 or https://venmo.com/u/cmicholychak with "for Jay" in the subject line.
