Helen Louise Whiting ("Casey"), 71, of Apalachin, NY, passed peacefully on December 26, 2025 at Mercy House in Endicott, NY. She was surrounded by her loving husband, son, daughter, and daughter in law in her final hours.

Helen was born September 19, 1954 in Binghamton, NY to parents William and Lila Casey. She graduated high school from Seton Catholic Central and afterwards pursued further education, earning her LPN. Helen dedicated her life to serving others as a nurse in several locations throughout the Southern Tier during her career. She was beloved by co-workers and patients alike before ultimately retiring from Willow Point Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in 2017 after being diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.

Helen had a deep love of animals, particularly her cats, and served as a volunteer at Project Paw. Her earlier passions included sewing, making her own scrubs, and taking thousands of candid pictures of her loved ones with her Sony Mavica. She was an enthusiast of all genres of music, a good cry, game shows, and FOOD. Dining out was her favorite pastime. "Sure beats cooking," she would say. Above all, Helen's greatest joy in life was her family. She bravely battled her grim diagnosis for eight years for them, especially her grand-babies who "kept her going."

Helen is survived by her husband of 44 years, Alan Whiting, son Nicholas (Sarah) Whiting, daughter Kari (Tyler) Bush, two grandchildren Jenessa and Orren Bush, sister Suzanne (Paul) Tierno, sister-in-law Christine Casey, step daughter Jessica (Terry) Utter, step son Daniel Whiting, step son Alan Whiting Jr., as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, and friends. She is predeceased by her parents William and Lila, as well as her brother William Casey Jr.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 4 from 2-4 PM at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home located on 6519 NY-434, Apalachin, NY 13732. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 5 at 11 AM at St. Patrick's Church located on 302 Main St, Owego, NY 13827.
