Rose was born in Johnson City, NY to Martin and Josephine Panicek. Rose was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years Leo J. Meaney, Sr. She was also predeceased by her parents and brothers Fred, Milan, and Robert. She is survived by those who cared for her, which allowed her to remain at home, Martin and Sheila Meaney of Johnson City, NY, Leo Meaney Jr. of Bonita Springs FL, Martin and Sheila's children Sean and Elizabeth Meaney of Johnson City, NY, Michael and Caitlin Meaney of Brooklyn, NY and Thomas and MacKenzie Meaney of Goshen, NY, great grandchildren Emma and James Meaney and her ever present canine companion Molly. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and Charles S. Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her Registered Nursing Degree. Rose had a long and fulfilling career as a Psychiatric Nurse at Wilson Memorial Hospital and UHS. This was her passion and brought her great happiness knowing that she was helping those who truly needed help. Rose made many friends during her nursing career and was known for her quick wit and being the unit jokester.

Rose was a faithful and devout Catholic praying the rosary daily, and a member of Saint James Church for most of her life. She was also an active candy maker for the parish.

When Rose retired, she enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City to play the slots. She also went on many cruises and trips to Florida with her traveling buddy Louise. She also enjoyed going to the senior citizens center where she made many new friends. She was also known as the resident comedian at both candy making and the senior citizens center because of her never-ending supply of jokes.

Rose loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all her heart and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed baking particularly during the holidays when she would make many ethnic favorites. Rose passed this love of baking onto her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Katherine Holmes for the wonderful care that she provided to Rose.

Rose faced many obstacles throughout her life but never complained or sought pity. She moved forward with a joke and a smile. This was her legacy to those who knew and loved her. When you think of Rose think of her with a joke or a smile. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday January 16, 2026 at 11 AM at St. James Church, Johnson City. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Friday morning from 9:30 AM until service time at 11.
