Brian S. Davis Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of Brian Sanford Davis announces his passing at home on January 18, 2026, at the age of 72, following an 18-year battle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Laura Knochen-Davis; his children, Adam Lewis Davis and Madison Jean Davis Cella (Joseph); and his granddaughter, Chloe Marie Cella. He also leaves behind his sister, Coral Snider (Ron); and nieces and nephew, Jenny, Jill, and Nick. Brian was predeceased by his parents, Blanche and Lewis Davis; his brother, Barry; and his niece, Lynn Marie.

Born on January 28, 1953, raised in Owego, New York, and graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University, Class of 1975, Brian left an indelible mark on the world through his art. He was renowned for his incredible creativity as a sculptor, scenic artist, and sculptural architectural renovator. Working across various media, he successfully shared his craft with students of all ages. Through his work and contributions to the Binghamton University Art and Theatre Departments, he earned praise from students, faculty, and administrators alike. He was recognized for his extraordinary talent, broad skill set, and steady patience. Brian was especially well-known for his biannual bronze-casting workshops, which attracted artists and students from across the country.

While Brian's work reached international audiences, his local accomplishments in the Greater Binghamton area remain a testament to his skill. He completed complex and dramatic restorations of decorative plaster and wooden ornaments for turn-of-the-century buildings, including the Kilmer Building and Bundy Mansion. His work is also on display at the Broome County Library Reading Garden, Confluence Park, the Discovery Center, and the Church of the Holy Innocents. Additionally, he designed and built several sets for local theaters, most notably Tri-Cities Opera, as well as other international opera houses.

Pieces from Brian's private collection have been featured in over 20 catalogs and more than 200 galleries throughout the USA and Europe, including regular features on CBS Sunday Morning.

Brian was a loving husband, father, and new grandfather. Friends and family benefited from his sharp wit and unique intellectual perspective on life. He enjoyed the Yankees and Giants, golf, tennis, gardening, photography, board games, and his beloved pets, Lucy and Sasha.

The family would especially like to thank Michelle Hairston for her invaluable assistance during the past six months. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please support or purchase local art, or make a donation to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
