Douglas G. Bunnell Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Douglas G. Bunnell, 75, of Endicott, NY. Doug passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, courage, and unwavering devotion to his family and his passions.

Born to the late Dean and Doris (Demming) Bunnell, Doug was a proud graduate of Union-Endicott High School (Class of 1968) and Hofstra University (Class of 1973). A dedicated Structural Engineer, his distinguished career spanned several decades, including roles at Masonite in Pennsylvania, as well as IBM, Loral FS, and Lockheed Martin in Owego, NY.

Beyond his professional life, Doug was a man of the earth. For 48 years, he found peace and fulfillment as a hobby farmer, raising and training two teams of oxen, tending to his land and many gardens with the same precision he applied to engineering. An avid outdoorsman, and hunter, he was a long-time member of the Tioga County Sportsmen's Association and felt most at home in the quiet of the woods.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol, who was his constant partner in life's journey. His memory will be cherished by his daughters, Cassandra (Michael) Reller and Jessica (Curtis) Moore, and his "bonus" grandchildren, Noah and Jared Moore. He also leaves behind his youngest brother, Darrel (Cathy) Bunnell; his sister-in-law, Cindy Bunnell; nieces Amanda Bunnell, Caitlin (Jimmy) Helm, Sarah Bunnell and nephew Ethan Bunnell; numerous cousins including Bona (Kathy) Bunnell and cherished long time friends Neil and Marie Zimmer and Bill and Gloria Gow.

In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his brother, Donald Bunnell, and his in-laws, Charles and Laurel Schellhaas.

Doug was a man of quiet capability, whose life was defined by the things he built—not just in structures of steel and wood, but in the lasting bonds of a family that loved him deeply.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held this coming spring. Details regarding the date and location will be shared by the family as the time approaches.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Food Pantry, 801 Main Street, Vestal, NY 13850 or the Binghamton Humane Society.
