Janice L. Harrison Obituary

On the morning of February 18, 2026, a precious woman, wife, mother, and grandmother, Janice L. Harrison's life here on earth ended and she was joined together with her parents, sister, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law in the glorious presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Ed, sons Ben (Elena), Joshua, Aaron (Marzella), and Micah (Jennifer), and 9 wonderful grandchildren whom she dearly loved as "Granny".

Jan was born on July 17, 1951 and grew up with 3 brothers and 1 sister. Since childhood, she had a great love for God's creation and all of its beauty. She was never quite as happy as when she was outdoors––walking, hiking, swimming, skiing, skating––especially when joined by as many of her family as she could bring along.

A gifted artist, she often expressed her appreciation of her Father's world through painting, sculpture, photography, and poetry. Above all, she was consistent and intentional in sharing this love with her sons and their children as they grew, instilling in them the greatness of God, and the importance of centering their lives on serving Him.

Jan was known to many for her masterful cakes, creating several hundred over the decades for countless occasions, from themed birthday cakes to extraordinary, sometimes towering, wedding cakes. Despite the miles of separation, she was always there on each grandchild's birthday, ready to produce the edible version of a dinosaur, princess, ninja, or monster truck on the spot.

For several years, Jan delivered her skills more formally through her business, which she described simply as 'decorating', but which was often the production and installation of impressively detailed props, realistic replicas, and complex, full-scale scenery for special events like Bar Mitzvahs, Bat Mitzvahs, large businesses' holiday parties, and civic group gatherings. Some may recall the murals she painted on the walls of the entrances to several of the former Giant Markets.

Among the many talents God gave her, was the Spiritual Gift of Teaching that allowed her to reach out and connect with the spiritual needs of women of all ages. Drawing upon the truths of God's word, she spent much of her time teaching women's classes at church and counseling one-on-one through community outreach organizations, where God used her devotion to impact many lives along the way. In recent years, her husband Ed has served as an interim pastor for two church congregations. In preparing messages, he would often seek out and incorporate her knowledge of scripture, and wisdom from God such that the message would reach out to and be understood by everyone.

Jan, Mom, Granny, Sis. Full of love, talent, insight, and compassion, all of which she so freely gave, we will miss her every day. But, her legacy carries on in her art, in the memories of the many who knew her, and especially in her children, who live in the Light of God's Word, and grandchildren, who, even at their young ages, are expressing their love of Jesus Christ in their lives, and through their inherited artistic abilities.

A "Celebration of Life " is planned for Saturday, May 09, 2026 at the Northbridge Church, Vestal Campus (formally RCBC), 2101 Owego Road at the intersection with Ross Hill Road, Vestal, NY

The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 noon until 1:00 PM when the celebration will begin.
