We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Catherine I. Hess, born on July 27, 1931, who peacefully passed away in her home on June 16, 2026.Catherine was a truly kind and loving woman who meant everything to her family. She brought warmth, comfort, and joy wherever she went, and her gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.She graduated from Newark Valley High School and went on to build a strong and dedicated career. She first worked at Endicott Johnson, then General Electric, and in 1968 began her career at IBM. Through hard work and determination, she advanced from an assembler to a Zone Analyzer, a role she held with pride until her retirement in 1987.Catherine had a love for the simple joys in life. She was an avid reader, took long rides in the car, enjoyed tending to her beautiful flowers, and found happiness doing puzzles during the winter.She was the heart of our family. Her love was unconditional, her patience endless, and her care unwavering. She always put her family first, offering support, encouragement, and a listening ear whenever it was needed. Her kindness and generosity will forever be remembered.Catherine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wilbur N. Hess; her parents, Harry and Mae VanVorce; and most of her brothers and sisters. She was also predeceased by her two sons-in-law, John R. Warner and Joseph E. Kimball; and her two grandsons, Jeremy D. Hess and Jared D. Warner.She is survived by her siblings, Lorretta and Rick Nelson, and Chuck and Nancy VanVorce; her loving children, Doug and Toni Hess, Audrey Warner, Annette Kimball, Kathy and Tom Wheeler, and Wayne Hess. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Joel and April Hess, Chad Warner, Abby and Josh McGowen, Aaron and Tawney Kimball, Cassey and Seth Sisombath, and Samantha and Kenny Hoyt, along with 11 great-grandchildren who brought her great joy.She will be cherished in our hearts for her compassion, her strength, and the beautiful way she lived her life—with grace and love. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in each of us and in the memories we hold dear.We will miss her deeply and love her always.Funeral services will be held at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home on July 7, 2026. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the cemetery immediately following the service, with a luncheon to follow at the Endicott Nazarene Church.
