Richard Anechiarico

Obituary of Richard L Anechiarico

Richard L. Anechiarico Richard L. Anechiarico, 73, devoted and cherished husband, father, and grandfather, of Endwell, died Monday, August 25, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Rosalyn (Ryan) Anechiarico; three loving daughters, Megan Anechiarico, Teresa (Thomas) Baleno, and Laura Anechiarico; and two adoring granddaughters, Anina and Olimpia Baleno. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Ruppert; sister-in-law, Michelle Lonergan; cousins, Anthony (Marguerite) Anechiarico and Francis (Cynthia) Melia; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Mary Anechiarico; parents-in-law, James and Dolores Ryan; and brothers-in-law, Jerome Ruppert and David Lonergan. He was a graduate of Seton Catholic High School and Binghamton University, and then embarked upon a career as a much respected and inspirational English teacher, first in Greene and Johnson City, and then for 30 years at Union-Endicott High School. His appreciation of and facility with the intricacies of language and communication were evident to his many public speaking students, as well as to colleagues, friends, and family who delighted in the stories he told and the limericks he composed for special occasions. He had a particular passion for the work of William Shakespeare, and was an avid theater-goer and patron of the arts in general. However, his favorite place to be was on any ski slope, and he was fond of stating, "There are only two seasons: Ski Season and Getting Ready for Ski Season." In recent years he found an additional way to channel this passion for skiing as a volunteer and then board member of the Greek Peak Adaptive Snowsports program. The family would like to thank the staffs of Riverview Manor Health Care Center in Owego, Lourdes Hospital, and the Sandiford Rehabilitation Center at Binghamton General Hospital for their compassion, care, and support over the past two months. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:45 a.m. from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home LLC, 300 E. Main St., Endicott, and 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Holy Family, Endwell, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard can be made to Greek Peak Adaptive Snowsports, 64 Matthews St. Binghamton, NY 13905. In the words of Horatio about his dear friend Hamlet, "Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince: And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!"
