Obituary of Janice E Ulangca

Janice Johnson Ulangca Vestal: Act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with your God. MicahJanice Ulangca left this world to join her husband Abraham after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Elaine and Frank Johnson born in Sioux City, IA. She was a wife, sister, friend, teacher and colleague who used her gifts and talents well to serve her God and her community. Her persistence to bring peace through justice was shown by her life's work and her example. She is survived by her sister Jeanine and her husband Ron; nephew, Lamont Seckman; niece, Felicia Seckman; and brother and sisters-in-law, David, Thelma, Esther and Marcello Jr. She is also survived by other Ulangca family members, Ambrose and Thelma, Norman and Ada, Aiden, Caleb, and Nigella Ulangca. She has an extended family of friends and colleagues around the world. Janice hosted classical music on WSKG for many years, beginning in 1981. After she left WSKG's employ, she returned faithfully during membership drives to encourage support for public television and radio. She had her master's degree in music and shared this gift with the churches of Calvary UMC in Vestal and First UMC in Endicott where she was currently a participating member. She also was a poet that saw and wrote the beauty of life and nature. She served as a missionary in the Philippines in the 1950's and taught in the Deaconess program at Harris Memorial School in Manila and it was there she met her husband Abe. Her many years of working for peace through justice included being a long time Board member of the Institute of Cultural Affairs and also ICA International. She was a Chair of the Broome County of Council's Peace with Justice Committee, a member of Citizen Action and the cornerstone Group that helped individuals being released from incarceration. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to first United Methodist Church in Endicott for their Safety Net Program or the Broome County Council of Churces. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday August 14, 2013 at 12:00 Noon at the First United Methodist Church of Endicott, 53 McKinley Ave. Endicott. Rev. Susan Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Church Wednesday from 11 AM until service time at noon.
