Obituary of Charles R Williams

Charles R. Williams, Jr. Vestal: Charles R. Williams (Charlie) died peacefully on October 12, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was born on February 14, 1928. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Anna Williams. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (his Maggie) to whom he was married for 63 years. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Roarty; his children, Kathleen (Gary) Boll, Charles Williams Jr., Nancy Williams, Frank and Thomas Williams. In addition, Charlie was a devoted grandfather to ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. After graduating from Forty Fort, PA High School in 1945, Charlie enlisted in the US Navy where he served as a Medical Corpsman in WWII. Upon discharge, he attended Wilkes College where he met his wife and best friend, Maggie, in Marriage and the Family Class. They liked to think they got an "A" in the class. Charlie retired from IBM Glendale after 30 years in the Systems Technology Division. In 1984, he received the IBM President's Award. Charlie and Maggie moved to Vestal in 1955. He was active in the Vestal Jaycees and served as President of the local chapter and also as Regional Vice President. In 1960, he was nominated for Jaycee's Young Man of the Year Award. He initiated a volunteer visiting program at the Binghamton State Hospital. Charlie was also active in the Vestal Little League were he served as a Coach for many years as well as President. He was a member of the Vestal Emergency Squad where he was an Emergency Medical Technician. He was also a member of American Legion Post 1700. The latter part of his life was spent enjoying time with his wife and family. In particular, they loved taking cruises and spending time at the beach. Charlie lived life to the fullest and will always be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and the NY Giants. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Lourdes Hospital and to the members of the Vestal Volunteer Emergency Squad for the compassionate care they provided to Charlie in his time of need. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home LLC, 765 Main St., Vestal. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park where full Military Honors will be accorded. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Vestal Volunteer Emergency Squad, 324 Myrtle St., Vestal, NY 13850.
