Obituary of Francis E. Bryant

Francis Edwin Bryant, 83, died peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Greer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Canaan, Conn. Born and educated in Valparaiso, Indiana, Mr. Bryant was the son of Minnie Cable Bryant and John Walker Bryant. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Reeves Bryant, also of Canaan, Conn.; as well as three children, John Bryant, Colorado, Jim Bryant, Kilmarnock, Va., and Terry Bryant Wise, Stockbridge, Mass; and four grandchildren, Maclain Bryant, Winston-Salem, NC; Peter Wise and Betsy Wise, Brooklyn, NY, and Margot Wise, Stockbridge, Mass. He is predeceased by his sister, Geraldine Myers; and his brother, J. Russell Bryant. Mr. Bryant completed officers training for the U.S. Navy during WWII at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Upon discharge he completed his education, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He was then recruited by IBM and moved to Endicott to begin a long career with the company. After retirement in 1980, he enjoyed woodworking and photography and traveled widely with his wife. He and Doris lived in Vestal from 1950 until health concerns necessitated a move to northwestern Conn., in 2005 to be closer to their daughter. He was a quiet, careful and loyal man, who meticulously took care of his family, friends, his work and his cars. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Endicott, on May 18th at 2:00. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the Union Presbyterian Church, 200 East Main St., Endicott, Rev. Art Suggs officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Presbyterian Church, 200 East Main St., Endicott, NY 13760, where Mr. Bryant was an active member since 1948.
