Obituary of Cara A. Waitkus

Cara, 52, went with the angels to join her beloved family members in heaven on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Born on April 1, 1971 in Burlington, VT, Cara graduated from Vestal High School and worked at the sheltered workshop in Johnson City, NY. Cara volunteered at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, NY, working in the cafeteria and the women's health center. Because of Cara's loving and outgoing personality, she lived joyfully. Loved by all, she created warm and enduring friendships. She was most closely bonded with her grandmother "Grandma Jane," her great-grandmother "Butchie" Mastowski and her "Uncle Buddy" Malobisky. Cara was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Jane and Leo Malobisky; Uncle Leo "Buddy" Malobisky; her great-grandmother, Mary Mastowski; and paternal grandparents, Kashmir and Agnes Waitkus. Cara is survived by her parents, Linda and Charles Waitkus; her brother, Derek Waitkus and his wife, Courtney Thomas Waitkus,; nephews, Jacob and Nicholas Waitkus; niece, Maisie Waitkus; aunt and uncle, Karen and Stephen Parker and by her schoolmate and best friend, Brenda. A funeral mass will be offered at St. James Church on Thursday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 until the time of the mass.
