Obituary of Richard Winchell

Richard Winchell Endwell: Richard Winchell, 84, of Endwell, NY, passed away on March 23, 2013 at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY. He was born in 1928 in Kingston, NY and grew up in Port Ewen, NY. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1946. After graduation Richard enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1946 - 1948. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy he was hired by International Business Machines in Poughkeepsie, NY as an Apprentice Toolmaker. He worked his entire 39 year career for IBM, retiring as Vice President of Facilities and Administration from the Owego Federal Systems Division. Richard loved to hear his wife Joyce play the piano and would often sing along. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed bowling, golf, reading and going for walks. He was a huge NY Yankees fan and went to many games with his children and watched them on TV consistently. He was also a member and very involved with Central United Methodist Church in Endicott. He served as the church treasurer for many years, was an usher, Bible study teacher, volunteered in the kitchen and a general handyman as needed. He also served as a Camp Counselor at the affiliated Sky Lake Camp for many years. He is predeceased by his parents, Burlin and Ida; and two brothers, Robert and Roger. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joyce; his daughter, Beth and husband Doug (Endicott, NY); his son Robert, and wife Liz (Grafton, MA); and 3 grandchildren whom he adored, Morgan (7), Nathaniel (8), and Jason (5). Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 27, from 4-7 p.m. at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home in Endicott. There will be a Funeral service at Central United Methodist church in Endicott Thursday morning at 11 a.m. A Luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association or Central United Methodist Church.
