Obituary of Herbert Meier

Herbert E. Meier Formerly of Vestal: Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Herb, was translated to heaven on May 20, 2013. He was born in St. Louis, MO on December 29, 1923. He was predeceased by his parents, August and Ella Meier, both of St. Louis MO; his brothers, Victor, Larry, and Edgar Meier; his sisters, Lorna Meier, Mildred Martin, and Erna Warner; and his wife of almost 65 years, Willetta Moorman Meier. He is survived by his four children, Karen Mayer of Apalachin, NY, Susan (Ken) Wegner of Racine, WI, Janet (Darrell) Varley of Kirkwood, NY, and James Meier of Ann Arbor, MI; grandchildren, Johnathan (Erin) Mayer, Hannah Mayer, Levi (Nicole) Mayer, Kristin Wegner, Karla (Ray) Fera, and Louis Wegner; many nieces and nephews, and 4 great granddaughters with one on the way. He served in the US Navy just as WWII was ending. His ship was on the way to Shanghai, China when the peace treaty was announced. Herb worked for Time Equipment and then became an Engineer at IBM St. Louis, he was transferred shortly after to IBM Endicott where he stayed until he retired in 1984. Member of Quarter Century Club, Co-Inventor of two patents, charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Vestal, NY and served the church faithfully all of these years. Involved with Boy Scouts, was gifted at making beautiful wooden furniture. He had a gift for fixing things that were broken! Most of all Herb was a man of faith and loved to share his stories of how God had directed his path. Many thanks to the United Methodist Homes Campus, Hilltop and Elizabeth Church Manor for their love and kindness while he was in their care. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing May 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. held at Grace Lutheran Church in Vestal, NY (corner of Main Street and Hazel Drive), followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow at Vestal Hills Memorial Park and a luncheon will be held afterword at the church.
