Obituary of Patricia B Cunning
Patricia B. Cunning
Patricia B. Cunning passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6 2013, at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Pat was born on June 7, 1927 on a farm in Otsego County, NY and was raised there by her parents, Walter and Pearl Bound. The Bounds were one of the original families to settle in Kirkwood, NY, having relocated there from New Jersey. Following Walter's death in 1942, the family returned to Binghamton, where Pat graduated from Binghamton North High School and business school. She then began employment with ANSCO where she met a young man from West Endicott by the name of George Cunning. Despite the fact that he took her to a football game on their first date, not knowing that she hated football, they were ultimately married on October 7, 1950 and enjoyed 56 happy years together until he passed away on July 12, 2007. Pat was a stay-at-home mom to their three children, Debra, Judith and Scott. Pat was a consummate homemaker who excelled at farm style cooking (especially pies) and all kinds of fabric crafts including quilting, knitting, crochet and needlework, as well as sewing many of her daughters' clothes. Pat also enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Vestal United Methodist Church over 50 years, running their rummage sales and contributing food to many church events. Pat was a kind, caring wife, mother and friend who often put the needs of others before her own. She is now reunited with George, who she deeply missed since his passing. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her sister, Winifred Tyrrell and her brother, Rev. Clifford Bound. Pat is survived by her daughter, Debra Spano and son-in-law, James Spano of West Endicott; granddaughter, Katharine Spano and great-grandson, Lucas Coomes of Maryland; daughter, Judith Cunning of Vestal; son, Scott Cunning and daughter-in-law, Diane Cunning; granddaughter, Allison Cunning and grandson, Miles Cunning of Greece, NY. She was also survived by many cousins and in-laws including Dick and Sandie Blackwell and family of Endicott, Russ and Sharon Smith, Velma Sturgeon of Arizona, Delores Way of Binghamton, H. Kenneth and Jean Cunning of Texas and Norman and Donna Bidwell of North Carolina. The family wishes to acknowledge the efforts of Dr. Kevin Gallagher, Dr. Madhuri Yalamanchili of Broome Oncology, Vickie Monticello, NP of the UHS Diabetes Center, Twin Tier Home Health, Sister Fredrica, Mary Cosentino of Lourdes Hospice, Andy and Dana of the UHS Express Unit and Dawn Marie Kelleher of the UHS Emergency Dept. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10, at 10 a.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC at 765 Main Street, Vestal with burial to follow thereafter in Vestal Hills Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Contributions in memory of Pat may be directed to Vestal EMS or a charity of one's choice
