Obituary of Timothy Harry Rogers
Timothy Harry Rogers
Timothy Harry Rogers died on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from metastatic lung cancer. He was born on August 17, 1950 in Gouverneur, NY, the eldest son of Lyman Frederick "Bud" Rogers and Lucille Jean (Sharpe) Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne (Qulia) Rogers and his children; Evan Francis Rogers, Leslie Anne Rogers, and Leighton "Lee" Alexander Rogers. He is predeceased by his father and a sister who died shortly after childbirth. His paternal grandparents were Frederick Lyman "Dime" and Doris (Randall) Rogers. Doris was especially helpful to Tim throughout his life, encouraging him to be the best that he could be. His maternal grandparents were Harry Wilcox Sharpe and Gladys Matilda (Hall) Sharpe. Tim is also survived by his five siblings and their spouses; Roy Andrew "Andy" Rogers, Jon Lyman and Tammy Rogers, James Elbert and Michelle (Marcello) Rogers, Randall Lewis and Jodie Rogers (recently deceased), and Nancy Hall Rogers. He is also survived by his mother, Lucille. All reside in central Florida. He is also survived by Patricia's family: her mother, Margaret Sarah (Robinson) Qulia; Barbara Ellen (Qulia/Coulier) and Richard Koski, Sacramento, CA; Richard Francis and Kathryn "Kitty" (Yute) Qulia, Knoxville, TN; Robert Gerard and Helen (Henry) Qulia, Fort Mill, SC; John Dominick and Virginia "Ginny" Irene (Qulia) Palumbo, Syracuse, NY; and predeceased by Patricia's father, Arthur Francis "Frank" Qulia. Tim is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well. Although Tim was born in NY, he grew up in Sanford, FL, where he graduated from Seminole Senior High School. He attended Florida State University but eventually moved to Houston, TX. In Houston, he trained as a surgical scrub technician and eventually became a perfusionist, operating the heart-lung machine during open-heart surgery. He moved to Philadelphia, PA where he met Patricia at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was also employed as a perfusionist. They married in a small ceremony at the First United Methodist Church in Roxborough, PA on February 6, 1983. Shortly after their vows, they relocated to Monroeville, PA, a small suburb of Pittsburgh, where all three of their children were born. In January 1989, Tim and Patricia were hired by United Health Services to assist in the launch of the cardiac surgery program, for which they made a final relocation to Vestal. They have both worked at UHS as perfusionists for 24 years and consider each person that worked on the cardiac surgery program to be a part of their extended family. Tim enjoyed refurbishing old Volkswagens, building and flying remote controlled model airplanes, photographing local Catholic school sports fundraisers, and Seton Central High School's football, track, and lacrosse teams. The Rogers family would like to thank the staff from Lourdes Hospice, the physicians and staff from Wilson OR and ICU, the neurosurgical step down unit, Binghamton General Hospital's Krembs 6 unit, Dr. Khalid Sethi, Dr. Rashid Haq, Dr. Riedling and the staff at Broome Oncology, Dr. M.B. Yousuf, Dr. K.T. Wong, Dr. Richard Cunningham, Susquehanna Anesthesia Associates, and all of the other physicians, nurse anesthetists, co-workers, and managers in the operating room at Wilson Hospital and all of our other friends from the community for their fund-raising, advice, prayers, phone calls, cards, casseroles, bedside visits, and understanding during these difficult times. Tim was also fortunate to have such wonderful children who took great care of him at home during his last year of life, putting their own careers and dreams on hold in order to help their father. Calling hours will be on Monday, March 17 from 4PM to 7PM at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 801 Main St., Vestal, NY on Tuesday, March 18 at 10AM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, 501 Fairview Street, Johnson City, NY. Donations may be sent to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, PO Box 326, Vestal, NY 13851, or to Catholic Schools of Broome County, 70 Seminary Ave., Binghamton, NY 13905.
