Obituary of Joseph Sapienza

Joseph Sapienza Joseph Sapienza, 93, of Vestal, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Originally born in New York City and raised in Sicily, Joseph returned to New York where he worked as a dress pattern maker until he retired. He then moved to Vestal in 2003. Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal and enjoyed attending church functions throughout the year, especially the annual Parish Picnic. Joseph was an active participant of the Vestal Senior Center with his wife, Angela. He enjoyed attending trips and lunches with friends from the center. Joseph was an avid gardener, tending to an expansive garden in his backyard every summer. An active outdoorsman, Joseph walked more than a mile daily until the age of 90, loved fishing at the family cabin in Spencer, NY, and skied until the age of 75. Joseph treasured any opportunity to be with his loved ones. Joseph is survived by his wife, Angela; his two daughters, Anna (Joseph) Wright and Rita (Carter) Coleman and their families; which include six grandchildren, Carter (Leigh Ann), Joseph (Stephanie), Phillip, David, Stephanie, and Marianna; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, LLC at 765 Main St., Vestal on Thursday, April 10th, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, April 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Joseph may be made to Mom's House and Seton Catholic Central.
