Howard (Skip) E. Shelp
Vestal: Howard (Skip) E. Shelp, 83, of Vestal, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Helen Shelp; 5 daughters, Cheryl Thrasher, Denise (Cary) Kemp, Paula Shelp, Donna (Shelp) Fletcher, Diana (Dick Decker) Longo; 3 grandchildren, Nichole, Ed (Jenn), Corey; 2 great-granddaughters, Allanna and Leona; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special close friends. Skip was a retired Volunteer Vestal Fireman Company #1, worked at IBM for 35 years, and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves during the Korean War for three years. He spent his winters in Okeechobee, FL. He had many hobbies including golfing, bowling, horseshoes, gardening, cross-stitch and Swedish weaving. He spent many years camping with his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at West Corners Baptist Church, 302 Duke St., Endicott, NY, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Pastor David J. Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Howard (Skip) E.
