Obituary of Howard Schmidt
Howard J. Schmidt of Endicott Howard J. Schmidt, 89, of Endicott, passed away at his home in the loving care of his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Cochran Schmidt. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Lena Schmidt; and his daughter, Carol Budnikas. He is also survived by his daughter, Helen Schmidt, Rochester, N.Y.; and sons, John G. and Larraine Schmidt, Schenectady, N.Y., Terry and Beverly Schmidt, Austin, Tex., Eric and Janice Schmidt, Plainville, Conn.; grandchildren, John L. and Tina Schmidt, Schenectady, N.Y., Derik and Katja Schmidt, Schenectady, N.Y., Aaron Widrick, Spring Water, N.Y., Graham and Christina Widrick, Fairpoint, N.Y., Valerie Schmidt, New York City, Nathan Schmidt, Plainville, Conn., and Elizabeth Schmidt, ElCampo, Tex.; great-grandchildren, Jake, Samantha and Evan Schmidt, Vivian and Grayson Schmidt, Griffin and Annika Widrick; his brother, George W. Schmidt at Ideal Nursing Home; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Howard was employed at Endicott Forging for 42 years, a previous member of Central United Methodist Church, current member of the Union Presbyterian Church. He was a firm believer in the teachings of the Bible and practiced his faith. He loved to golf, fish and play cards. The family is grateful for the support of the members of the Union Presbyterian Church, Hospice, and all his many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009, at the Union Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Main St., Endicott, the Rev. Patricia Raube, Pastor of the church, will officiate. The family will receive friends, 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Those wishing may make contributions to the Union Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Main St., Endicott, N.Y. 13760; Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, N.Y. 13850; or to the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, 8 South Ave. B, Endwell, N.Y. 13760; or to the charity of one's choice.
