Obituary of James E. Murphy

James Murphy Of Johnson City James Murphy, 94, of Johnson City, peacefully entered the House of the Lord on the evening of May 14, 2007 at the Hilltop Retirement Center, Star Unit. He is now reunited with his loved ones who passed before him, including his parents, Frank and Anna McGovern Murphy, and his brother, Lt. Col. Miles J. Murphy, USAF Ret. He is survived by Ruth, his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, his beloved sister Mary Murphy of Mason City, Iowa, his sister-in-law Norine Murphy, Miami Springs, Fl, and his three children and their spouses, Johanna and Tim Masters of Brackney, Pa., Jim and Patricia Murphy of Warren, Pa., and Janice and David Koncak of Apalachin, NY. Jim leaves 7 grandchildren who will forever cherish his memory, Teri Geisenhof of Vestal, Tami Constantino of South Daytona, Fl, Sara (Jonas) Nielson of New York City, Nelson Murphy of Cleveland, Oh, Tyler (Sam) Cawley of Hartford, CT, Erika (Tom) Bronk of Owego, and Samantha Koncak of Apalachin; 7 great grandchildren, Jason (Kyra) Farthing, Matthew (Brandi) Farthing, Ryan Geisenhof, Keith Geisenhof, Carly Constantino, Loren Constantino and Owen Bronk, two great-great granddaughters, Kaitlyn Farthing and Kendall Farthing, and his special Murphy nieces and nephews and their families. Jim was born on July 13, 1912, in Lawler, Iowa. He graduated from St. Josephs High School in Mason city, IA and from the University of Iowa in Ames, IA. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army in WWII in the Italian and North African campaigns. Jim had a long career as a chemical engineer and photographic engineer with GAF in Binghamton, NY and with the Naval Photographic Center in Washington, DC. Jim was a man of intellect who pursued his love of learning throughout his life. He enjoyed science, math, physics and computer technology. He was devoted to his wife and children, and he deeply loved his grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. He treasured his Irish heritage. In keeping with Jims pre-arranged wishes, a memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at a later date at the convenience of his family. As per Jims request, his body has been donated to science, with arrangements made through Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Endicott, and Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse. As per Gods plan, his soul has been committed to the Lord. The Murphy family would like to thank the staff of Hilltop J.G. Johnson Nursing Home Unit II and the Star Unit for their loving and compassionate care of Jim over the past four years. Kindly consider a donation to these institutions in his memory.
