Obituary of Victor R Bird

Victor R. Bird of Apalachin Victor R. Bird, 79, of Apalachin, loving husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2009, at his home with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean A. Bird; his daughters, Linda B. Hickok and her husband Richard L. Hickok, Columbia, S.C., and Susan B. Davis and her husband Freddie V. Davis, Pine Village, Ind.; his grandchildren, Brenda H. Billotte and her husband Aaron Billotte, Tucker, Ga., Carol L. Hickok, Huntersville, N.C., Danielle Davis, Lafayette, Ind. and Ryan Davis and his wife Stephanie, Pine Village, Ind.; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Bird is also survived by a sister-in-law, Patricia A. Donahue; and nieces and nephews, Thomas Donahue, Patti Ann Kennedy, Dawn Kerchberger and their families. He was predeceased by a nephew, Stephen Donahue. Victor was a proud graduate of Penn State University - Class of 1951 and Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity. He was a longtime employee of IBM Owego, a member of the Quarter Century Club, and retired in 1984. Vic was a Life Member of the Apalachin Fire Department holding several positions during his tenure - Secretary/Treasurer, Commissioner and Fire Police. He was instrumental in planning, preparing and participating in the Apalachin Firemen's Field Days. He was a member of the Apalachin Methodist Church and a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and bowling. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 19th, at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, State Rt. 434, Apalachin, N.Y. Rev. Mary Jean Simonin, Pastor of the Apalachin United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 18th, from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Apalachin Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
