Obituary of William Wood

William Tobias Toby Wood Of Johnson City William Tobias Toby Wood, age 31, beloved son, brother and friend, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. Toby is survived by his mother and stepfather, Patricia and James Wilson, Johnson City, NY and his father Robert (Carol) Wood. He is also susrvived by his brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Ellen Wood, and nieces Morgan Rafferty and Bailey Wood, Maine, NY. He is remembered fondly by other close relatives, great-aunt Carolyn Castle, Vestal, NY, uncles and aunts Steve and Sue Castle, Blue Bell, PA, Charlie and Christine Castle, Abbottstown, PA, cousins Dave and Kathy Castle, Endicott, NY, Lindsey Castle, Centerville, OH, Karen Winkle, Ramsey, IN and Cassandra and Carly Castle, Abbottstown, PA. He is also survived by his step-brothers and step-sisterm Jim and Mike Wilson and Debbit Pritchard. He was warmly greeted in heaven by his grandparents, Bill and Bobbie Castle. Tody graduated from Johnson City High School in 1994. He graduated from Broome Community College with an Associate in Engineering Science degree. After a short stay at Universal Instruments Corporation and Raymond Corporation, Toby ventured to the north country, settling in Waterloo, NY where he began a wonderful career at Perkin/Elmer (now Eaton Corporation) in Phelps, NY quickly climbing the ladder into a Project Engineer position. In May of 2007, Toby joined G.W. Lisk, Clifton Springs, NY to begin a new direction in his life, but unfortunately his sudden diagnosis ended his new adventure. Tobys family would like to thank all of his wonderful co-workers at Perkin/Elmer (Eaton) and G.W. Lisk for their support and prayers during his illness. Toby was a skilled bowler, rolling numerous 800s and 300s. He was also a proficient golfer and enjoyed a round or two when his schedule allowed. But his true love was fishing. His skills, particularly in fly and spey fishing, were well known in the Finger Lakes/Rochester area. He accomplished a life-long dream to become a US Coast Guard Charter Captain and those who booked a trip on his Lund boat or shared the streams with him learned life-long skills. Toby has a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife. Countless early mornings were spent on Seneca Lake and Genesee River, two of his favorite locations. He was know for his patience and expertise and was well respected by other anglers. He was an active member of LOSA (Lake Ontario Steelhead Association), participating in seminars, committees, benefits and clean-up activities. A Memorial Service to celebrate Tobys life will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 4:00 P.M. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 765 Main St., Vestal, NY. The Rev. David Parsons, Pastor of the Calvary Baptist Tabernacle Church will officiate. Burial will be at the familys convenience. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, from 2:00 p.m. until service time at 4:00 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions in Tobys memory to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850.
