Sophie T. Gajzik, 87, of Vestal, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 18, 2007, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard in 1979. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Jerome Bolten, North Potomac, Md; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kellee Gajzik, Brackney, Pa; one brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Jean Bednarek, Eynon, Pa; one brother-in-law, Michael Gayzik, Dickson City, Pa; four sisters-in-law, Olga Bednarek and Rita Bednarek, both of Dickson City, Pa., Mary Kershbaumer, Nottingham, Pa, and Lucy Surmitus, Fla; one grandson, Jason Garofalo, Atlanta, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; two stepgrandchildren, Stephanie Fleischer, Md., David Bolten, Md.; four step great-grandchildren, Emily and Shaun Bolten, Md., Carly and Daniel Fleischer, Md. Sophie was a faithful member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal for 55 years. She was retired from Binghamton University where she was a supervisor of catering for many years. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and a great friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends and her yearly trips to Las Vegas.
A Funeral Mass for Sophie will be offered 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Charles St., Vestal. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 765 Main St., Vestal, Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions in Sophies memory to the American Cancer Society, Broome County Chapter, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760
