Obituary of Lawrence Gordineer

Lawrence Gordineer formerly of Apalachin Lawrence Gordineer, 76, formerly of Apalachin, N.Y., died at Trinity Mission Nursing Center in Edgefield, S.C., on Friday, January 25, 2008, of complications resulting from Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Peekskill, N.Y., on April 30, 1931, to the late Richard C. and Caroline Gordineer. His wife, Marlene Raetz Gordineer, whom he married in 1954, died in 1979. Larry was predeceased by his brother, Richard; and is survived by his sister, Virginia Duggan, Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; and his four children and their spouses, Dale (Beth) Gordineer, Edgefield, S.C., Sharon (Kraig) Brigham, Lenox, Mass., Lawrence W. (Cynthia) Gordineer, Apalachin, N.Y., and Shelley (Greg) Cooke, West Sand Lake, N.Y. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Matthew and Michael (Tracy) Wolff, Apalachin, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Larry served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from IBM in 1989 after 35 years of service. During his tenure at IBM, he worked for ten years on the Apollo Space Program in Huntsville, Ala. Before his retirement he worked on the LAMPS Helicopter Program in Owego, N.Y. Larry was active in the Vestal Elks Club for many years where he served as Exalted Ruler on more than one occasion and held the office of State Vice President for one term. Last year, the Elks Club awarded him a lifetime honorary membership as a way of showing appreciation for his past service. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal. Burial will follow in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, 3997 Vestal Rd., Vestal, N.Y. The family will greet visitors on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
