Obituary of Mary Ranucci

Mary O. Ranucciof Port Dickinson Mary O. Ranucci, age 80, of Port Dickinson, died peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, February 28, 2008. She was the proud daughter of the late Alfred and Nellie Wood. Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Ellen Stockholm and Harriet Canalas; and her brothers, Richard and Edward Wood. Mary is survived by her loving and caring husband, Paul Ranucci, with whom she shared 55 years of unconditional love. Also surviving are her five children and spouses, Ed and Cathy Ranucci, Suzanne and Charlie Walker, Janice Ranucci, Joseph and Assunta Ranucci, Sharon and Brian Stiner; grandchildren, Deanna, Alex, Carrie, Keith, Ryan, Erin, Joel, Dana, Christine, Paul, Mari, Mike, Matt, Mark and Nick; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters and spouses, Shirley and Paul Demoski, Margaret Palmer, Linda and Bob Keller; brothers and spouses, David and Virginia Wood, William and Callie Wood; several nieces and nephews; special friends who she loved and cherished, Dorothy and Bill Diffendorf, Gordi and Kate Kniffen, and Connie Clune. Mary was employed by Endicott Johnson, Binghamton Plastics, and found happiness when she worked for the Family and Children's Society as a home health care worker, where she cultivated many friendships and received joy and satisfaction by helping others bring a smile to their face. After retirement she became a true N.Y. Yankees fan and spent time crocheting in the home and spending more time with Paul and her family. Mary loved to cook and feed everyone, and took pride in all the unique and delicious meals she prepared, especially during the holidays, where many times there were 30 or more immediate family members waiting for her sauce and holiday chicken soup. Mary was a pure and simple soul who loved, took pride and joy in her husband, children, and grandchildren. No matter how great or small the accomplishment, she always had the gift of making everyone feel they were special and loved. Now that the angels have come to take her home, let the wind beneath her new found wings help all who loved her carry on her kind and giving ways. A celebration of Mary's life will be at Saint Catherine's Church on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at 12 Noon. Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. John Putano. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family would like to thank Dr. Harris and Broome Oncology; Sister Karen and Marge Mangan from St. Catherine's for their constant support and visits over the last 7 years; Cindy, Rhonda and Heather from Hospice for the gentle care they gave every day at the end of Mary's life.
