James E. Benedictof Binghamton, N.Y.
James Edward Benedict, 67, passed away unexpectedly at the Willow Point Nursing Home on Saturday, March 1, 2008, after a long illness. Born in Binghamton on December 30, 1940, Jim was a lifelong resident of the Triple Cities area and was a graduate of Broome Technical Community College. Jim enjoyed working to improve the lives of others in the community. Jim also enjoyed genealogy, both working on his own family history and helping others with their family histories. Jim was a member of Trinity Memorial Church. His parents, Frances Merrill Benedict and Berwyn B. Benedict; and a sister, Judith A. Stadel, predeceased him. He is survived by his aunts, Jeanette Merrill Johns and Beverly Corbin Merrill; and a brother-in-law, David W. Stadel, Clifton Park, N.Y. His nieces include Brenda Stadel Gibbs (Michael), Clifton Park, N.Y., Debra Stadel Wilper (Christopher), Ovid, N.Y., and Rebecca Stadel, Albany, N.Y. His nephews include John Stadel (Tracy), Schuylerville, N.Y., and Andrew Stadel (Holly), Rotterdam, N.Y. Grandnieces include Megan Ann Stadel, Kelly Ann Stadel and Sarah Rose Gibbs. The grandnephew is Alexander Richard Gibbs. Several cousins and their families also survive him.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main Street, Endicott, N.Y. Burial will be private at the Vestal Hills Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Donecker, Rector of his church, will officiate. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, 12 Noon to 1 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice.
