Obituary of Kenneth A. Slicklen

Kenneth A. Slicklenof Endicott Kenneth Arthur Slicklen, "SLICK", 85, passed away peacefully at Ideal Living Center on Friday, March 7, 2008. Ken was born February 23, 1923 in Berkshire, N.Y., to Monroe and Margaret (MacAusland) Slicklen. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, John Slicklen and Richard Slicklen; and son-in-law, Bill Ely. He is survived by brother, Joseph (Gert) Slicklen; sister, Marge (Robert) Britton; four children, Judee (Ed) Burrell, Cindy (Bill) Ely, Ryck (Dorie Mayo) Slicklen and Bob (Pam) Slicklen; nine grandchildren, Suzi (Kevin) Marble, Dave (Jessie) Ely, Leah Hawk, Tami (Jon) Evanitsky, Ryan Ely, Mike (Brenda) Burrell, Kenny Slicklen, Dustin Slicklen and Benny Slicklen; nine great-grandchildren, Morgan, Emma, Alexander, Jordan, Dylan, Jonathan, Hannah, Nicholas, Marshall; and special friend and companion, Rosemary Watson. He was a WWII veteran, proudly serving the United States Navy and Merchant Marines. He was employed at IBM, where he obtained membership in the Quarter Century Club. He was an avid Dale Ernhart Sr. fan and rarely missed a race. He also loved going to the local short track races. Ken was exceptionally proud of his drag racing trophies from his younger years. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 300 E. Main St., Endicott. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 1249 Upper Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905 in Ken's memory. The MDA also promotes awareness and research for Lou Gehrig's Disease.
